I’ve said before that employees are just like kids; they model themselves on your behavior! In dealing with kids, and employees, I’ve always had three golden rules…

Do as I do, AND as I say!

Employees and children are equally observant. And we all know how terribly a “do as I say, not as I do” policy fails – with both! If you want your employees to change the way they do things, the first place to look is how you do things. Culture is developed from the top down so start modeling the behaviors you want to encourage.

Treat others how you would like to be treated

If you expect your organisation to make your customers happy, start by making your staff happy. There is nothing more winning than a smile from an employee who genuinely loves working there! Never forget that all of your emp0loyees have the ability to be great word-of-mouth sales people.

Pavlov was right!

Ivan Pavlov was a Russian physiologist who found that animals can be conditioned to learn new tricks, especially when given rewards. If you want to get your employees motivated try rewarding them! It doesn’t have to be a huge expense – did you notice that Pavlov is only a letter short of Pavlova?
