Since my last newsletter I’ve had the honour of talking to both the business operators who support the Beacon Foundation program at Maffra Secondary College and the students themselves.
Amongst other things the program works with businesses to help create work experience opportunities for young people. It also gives them a taste of a vocation so that they can plan their future.
So, in these days of retail turbulence when troubled department stores are rediscovering the value of top notch customer service, it was fantastic to arrive at the venue and see that these great teenagers understood it and knew how to make it happen.
The sign shown in the photograph was prominent in a crowded parking lot to let me (as the guest speaker) slide into a convenient parking spot and thus arrive relaxed and unruffled for my presentation.
Now, although I really didn’t deserve the honour how do you reckon that little gesture made me feel?
Special, that’s what!
It was just a little thought with big impact. And little thoughts with big impact can make people… customers, clients, guests and patients… say “Wow!”
When these kids get into the workforce they are going to make a stack of employers and the people who are their customers say “Wow!” too.
Why not get in early and have a work experience kid in your business (they can probably sort out your social media conundrum too)?
