“Taxi drivers are great philosophers aren’t they?” I thought to myself as I listened to the guy driving me back to the airport the other day! They have a way of sometimes very aptly summing up the meaning of life and the universe.
You see what had happened was that I had asked him more by way of polite conversation than real interest, “How’s business?” His answer had summed up his business very succinctly.
“When I’m moving I’m making money.”
And isn’t that the truth I thought… when he’s moving he really is making money. How apt that was as a metaphor for all of us. Get action happening and you’ll get the results.
Then I thought, hang on, maybe we’d better qualify that. Our cab driver is making money providing he’s going in the right direction with a paying passenger in the cab. If he’s just moving he’s not making money… unless he’s heading toward where that paying passenger is or could be.
So action in itself doesn’t produce results. Purposefully planned action produces results.
So, get out there and stir up some action. Just make sure the action is happening where there are people that want what you’ve got, can afford to buy it and want it now! In a nutshell, create and do the action where you can get the results you want.
As always Winston, you put it very well. I love this analogy, so clear and so true.
