Do we need a symbol for ‘the’?

I’ve often wondered if we should replace the word “the” with an easier symbol.  Take a look at this video – I guess I’m not the only one!

Recently the Melbourne Age reported that Restaurateur Paul Mathis’ latest project was a new symbol for the word ‘the”. He argues that as ‘and’ (the fifth most used word in the English language) has the ampersand (&) then ‘the’ as the most used word warrants a symbol too.
