The other day a young bloke (a university student and shift supervisor at McDonalds) told me that he sent about 5,000 messages each month; his colleague (a bit higher up the McDonalds tree I think) sends about 20,000 messages each month. That’s around 160 and 700 messages respectively every day! Now both of them are contacting staff about rosters, etc. but even allowing for the staff being dumb or hard to please it’s still a heck of a lot of messages!

So here’s a few questions you may care to give me feedback on.

- Do you like getting messages?
- How many do you get a day roughly?
- Assuming that you are okay with those from friends and family, how do you feel about business messages?
- What business ones do you like getting or are useful to you?
- How many messages do you send every day?
- What do you mainly use them for?
- Are they personal or connected with your business?
- If business, what sort of things do you message about?

It’ll be interesting to see how you feel about them.

And by the way, here’s the book definition from ehow.com of SMS: “Sending SMS texts from your cell phone is a convenient way to communicate with other people. It’s often cheaper than making a phone call, and you do not have to worry about catching people at a bad time because they can reply when they are available.”
