The secret of success in business, any business, is to be a better marketer of what you do, than doer of what you do.

Now I know that you are good at doing what you do, the real question to ask yourself is, “How good am I at marketing what I do?”

In his great book, The E Myth, Michael Gerber says that means that you should spend the majority of your time working on the business rather than working in the business. And the priority you should work on must be marketing. Your efforts should be directed to developing a little black box that generates an endless supply of new prospects for your business.

Too many people say that they don’t have the time to work on their marketing. Quite frankly, it’s really a matter that they don’t not have the time. After all, the most important component of a business is to ensure that there is a plentiful supply of hot prospects walking through the door. Without prospects a business is dead.

So, even if it means that you have to close your doors for a day a week whilst you create your marketing systems, do so. You’ll be more successful in the remaining days of the week if you take the time off to focus on your marketing.
