You know there’s an old adage that there is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner. And I reckon that a corollary goes for cafes and restaurants and how they treat the pampered pets of the patrons – he says alliteratively. If they don’t worry about bringing water for the dog or ask whether the dog would like something to eat it probably indicates that they don’t particularly care for their patrons.

serviceBut when they make a fuss of the dog does that impress patrons? You bet it does!

That’s why I love Giorgio’s in Malvern in Melbourne. Whilst the council insists that the dogs have to be a few metres away from where we sit instead of by our side, the serving staff still keep an eye out for my dog and take great care of Millie as this photograph reveals.

And of course the other patrons noticed too. It was a talking point but it also underlined the care and attention that Giorgio’s lavishes upon customers and their dogs.

Maybe it’s just a small thing but it’s easier to get 1% better at 100 things than trying to get 100% better at one thing. After all, it’s the little things that add up.
