Well if you strip away the drugs, bad language, sex and all the rest of the salacious stuff and suspend your judgment on the rights and wrongs there are a number of great lessons for business people to take away from award-winning movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
- The enormous amount of belief he has. Without belief and passion you will achieve very little.
- The commitment. Nothing stands in the way of a monomaniac with a mission.
- The ability to imbue others with the same belief and passion.
- The regular team meetings where the team get an injection of enthusiasm that allows them to fight lions.
- It’s all about having a system… a system that people can follow over and over to get predictable results.
- Remembering to celebrate success… when you achieve your goals you and the team celebrate!
- Most importantly, tell people what to say it and how to say it and achieve amazing results. Everybody had a script which they scrupulously followed… it’s the McDonald’s concept once again.
If you haven’t seen the movie, go see it! As I said, forget the drugs, bad language, sex and all the rest of the salacious stuff, suspend your judgement on the rights and wrongs and the morality and lack thereof.
Just treat it as the best darn training movie you’ll get to see all year.
Totally agree Winston. I went home and wrote notes on what I could learn from the movie. My only disappointment was it didn’t focus more on what he is doing now.
Well there was an interview with him on ABC radio sometime ago you might want to search for and he’s doing a tour of Australia and NZ during June. If I wasn’t going to be overseas then I wouldn’t miss him!
Hi Winno, Great book to read and great movie. Agree that if we take out all the stuff you mentioned and the fine line between legal and illegal then there are some good lessons there. Never thought a drug dealer could be so effective in showing how to sell a pen! Just that scene alone should be mandatory viewing for all sales people.
Yes Michael and remember he got his guys, who came from real under privileged backgrounds, selling successfully to the top 1% of wealthy Americans. What a result. BTW he’s doing a tour of Australia and NZ during June. If I wasn’t going to be overseas then I wouldn’t miss him!
hey Winno,
That’s the way I saw it also and if that guy just stayed on the track of a legal business and off the drugs and stuff he may have built a strong business lasting his life time and contributed. But the dark side can be so attractive but destructive in the end.
I heard an interview with him a while ago and he realizes that. BTW he’s doing a tour of Australia and NZ during June. If I wasn’t going to be overseas then I wouldn’t miss him!
