I’m reminded that often there are tips or tricks of the trade that new people haven’t cottoned on to but are worth knowing about because they work so well. And when they work they set you and your business apart from the run of the mill competitors.
For example, the other day I was having an ultrasound on my shoulder. Now, I’m not looking for sympathy, but to explain why it was needed I did manage to trip over a catseye in the road just outside my place when I was running in the dark and about to set a new personal best time.
The ultrasound guy was having trouble determining what he was seeing in my shoulder. So he asked the senior guy who said “Look, here’s a great tip” and showed him how to get the answer. Most guys wouldn’t have known that and my doctor wouldn’t have got the answers she wanted.
A trick of the trade.
You know how you’re dealing with a great fish and chip shop?
Well it’s simple.
Wait until they wrap the fish and chips up in the paper or put them in the bag and then look to see whether they rip a tiny hole in the paper… it’s to ensure the chips stay nice and crunchy.
If they do that then you’ve got a great fish and chip shop… and it’s still another trick of the trade.
So here’s a question for you.
What tricks of the trade do you share with your people, and are you looking to learn tricks of the trade from others?
