If you know me, you’ll know that I’m pretty motivated and enthusiastic. My trademark “f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c” rarely goes unsaid despite the challenges I meet. And I know that it works, so it was good to be reminded of it a couple of weeks ago.

If you’ve been following my writings or conversations recently you might have known that I made a mess of my arm out running one morning. I didn’t do anything about it thinking that it would get better but it got worse and so I finally I turned up to see the surgeon.

He told me that my x-rays were horrible and that the arm was nearly irreparable. When he asked me how I did it I explained that it was as a result of falling over when running early one morning around 5. I explained I had to go out early coz I always went walking with my mates and the dogs after the run. When he asked me was there anything else I did I told him about bike riding with my mates on a Tuesday and my fitness group on Saturdays.

He asked me how I felt about those activities. I told them that they were fantastic and there’s no way I would want to give them up.

He thought for a moment then looked me in the eye and said, “Winston if you hadn’t been so enthusiastic about life, because of the extent of the damage to your shoulder, I would just have given you a couple of cortisone shots, put you on painkillers, told you to take things easy  and said that there was nothing else I could do. But because of your enthusiastic attitude I’ll put you in for surgery, do some exploration and if there is any possibility of fixing it I will.”

So that’s what happened and he’s fixed it. I’m well on the way to recovery.

It’s all about attitude. My zest for living meant I didn’t become a silly old man with a bad arm, becoming a pain to everyone around me.

I can live and love life as I’ve always done. It’s “f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c”!

How’s your attitude, how enthusiastic are you?

Oh, and by the way, if you want to rate your enthusiasm level just email miracles@winstonmarsh.com.au and the lovely Felicity will send you a page from my book “How to Motivate, Manage and Market Yourself” that will give you the drum.
