Here’s another question you should ask people who come into your business that you’re never met before. The question “Tell me, what are your contact details?” The shame is that so many people aren’t prepared to ask that question. They’re scared it will frighten the new customer off. But that’s a silly approach. You see, if you don’t have any contact details, how the heck can you follow up? And follow up is most important in any business.
What happens if they decide not to buy? If you are like most businesspeople the answer is probably “nothing” because you assume they’ll buy elsewhere. But maybe they don’t.
How’d it be if you gave them a phone call to say “Look, you were in the other day, I know you didn’t buy from me, I’m just ringing to see if you solved your problem.” An approach like that will knock them out. They’ll thank it’s fantastic and probably come and do business with you.
And if they don’t buy this time, you could always drop them a note saying “Thanks for the opportunity of talking with you. I know you’ve probably solved your problems and I hope you’ll be very happy but if I can help you in any way in the future please don’t hesitate to call me.” What will that do?
Either of those approaches lay them in the aisles. Because you see not too many people give great service like that.
