This message from my daughter, Leeshay, brought tears to my eyes coz, as I told her when I read it, it was fantastic for her old man to learn that messages not only stuck but have been passed onto my granddaughter. Long may the messages go down through the generations! Here’s what Leeshay said…
Packing up 19 years of my life in Gove has proved to be stressful & chaotic. Yesterday I started rambling my dad’s (Winston Marsh) philosophical quotes from when I was growing up.
First I was talking to an ANZ phone assistant who told me that they ‘can’t’ do what I was asking them to do. Quite pissed off, I heard myself saying, (now this is where I sound like my dad) ‘there’s no such thing as can’t, it’s just you’re not trying hard enough’.
Situation 2, my daughter is nagging me to help clean out her room, kept hassling me for a time frame for when I could help. My response (straight from classic Winno)
Q. How do you eat an elephant?
A. Bit by bit!! (wasn’t useful when he told me) however my daughter was so much more accepting of this.
She said ok & went to school. When she got home the first words out of her mouth, ‘mum when can we eat the elephant’.
Thanks dad, your wisdom has now come full circle.
