The Odd Spot in The Age the other morning told the story of an employer who was obviously sick’n tired of getting CV’s that all looked the same.
Maybe its time for the approach my son, Jeremy, used so many years ago to land a job against very stiff competition. He simply employed my golden rule… do what others don’t do and wrote a cover letter that revealed his skills… and proved them.
Good morning,
I am just the person you want!
Your advertisement in the Age attracted my attention and I believe I am ideally suited for the job you have advertised for the following reasons:
I’ve had some experience because amongst several types of work I’ve done since I left school I have been a larder chef at a hotel and a chef at a Mexican restaurant.
I’m responsible and diligent and, in fact, at the Mexican restaurant (my last job) I was placed in charge after a year or so and had total control of the kitchen every day (and of the whole restaurant on several days each week). My employer praised my work and my application to it and only the recession caused my retrenchment.
I love the food business and have wanted the opportunity to upgrade my skills and qualifications in an area I enjoy and your position gives me that chance.
I’m totally committed and enthusiastic and will give you dedicated service and loyalty (for example in the restaurant job, which I held for two years, I didn’t have a car then so I travelled by train and tram to and from East St Kilda every day . . .often at midnight).
I’m ready to give it my best because, having worked for a few years, I’ve “sown my wild oats” and I want now to build a career which means I’ll be totally dedicated to the job and the learning.
I’m ready and able and, at almost 19 years old, fit and well to start as soon as you wish because I’d love the job and the opportunity.
Naturally I have references and all the background information you require and I can show you those and provide further information on how I can answer your needs when we meet. I look forward to an appointment with you.
Yours sincerely
Jeremy Marsh
