Posting this photo was originally intended only to show off my grandchild number 9, Brennan, seen here loving Shah to death. And, although I would like you to ooh and ah over the handsome curly haired little bloke, there is a lesson in it for us all. You see, we have two cats… Mishka, a real queen of cats who knows how to gently guide us as to give her everything she wants and is much adored; and Shah (nicknamed Fat Cat) who is a stomach on wheels, pinches Mishka’s food given the chance, loudly demands food all day and is thus much unloved.
But Shah is smart; you’ve got to give him that.
You see, when our horde of grandchildren descends upon us Mishka disappears not to emerge until all is quiet on the home front. But not Shah! He’s always in the thick of things and allows the kids to pick him up, fondle him, and pull his hair or whatever with nary a growl, a bad word or a scratch in retaliation.
Shah knows… love my kid, love me! And everybody does! Whilst we may not exactly love him he gets buckets of affection in return.
I reckon he suffers coz he knows that the reward is worth it. It’s like us going on a diet or exercising… we suffer coz the reward is worth it.
So what are you suffering for what reward? If you’re not, try a little bit of suffering… the reward is worth it!
