Having just spent a few days in hospital you’ll get a few articles on observations I’ve made as a result of my experience and I’m delighted to say that none will be critical… just great happenings from which maybe we can learn.

So what’s this about pings? Well, all the time I was in hospital I was connected to one of those machines that go “ping” when anything related to me strayed from normal. After a few pings it brought a member of the team to get me, or rather my body, back on track.

I thought how great it would be if we had a machine that went “ping” in our daily lives whenever we went off track and whilst that’s a bit of a bold dream you can have something like it.

And what’s that?

The “how’s things?” call is one of those techniques every businessperson should use.
It works beautifully for anybody who is serious about making their business successful.
In fact, if you’re not using it you should be.

Well, it’s your “unreasonable friend”… somebody who you know, respect and trust that you meet with regularly and talk over what’s happening in your business and personal life. They are not there to stroke your ego, tell you how great you are or agree with everything you say.

They are there to go “ping” when they think you may have gone off course. They won’t force their opinion on you but maybe chat about the reason they “pinged” and maybe get you to see it differently. Least ways to stop and think!

You can have one or two unreasonable friends for different aspects of your life. I have and I really do value those pings!

This isn’t quite what I had in mind!
