In the Gold Coast area apparently there are several distinct clan estate groups (previously referred to as tribes) of indigenous people. Collectively they were known as Yugambeh people.

I tell you this by way of introduction to a simply said but very profound philosophy I was lucky enough to learn the other night.

It was the opening of the Professional Speakers Australia conference on the Gold Coast and, as is customary, an Elder from the original owners presented the welcome to their country.

In a fantastic presentation on behalf of the Yugambeh people, the Elder, supported by two talented children, using music, song and dance wove a wonderful story about his people.

One of the great things he told us was that, when his people are fishing and find a shoal of fish, they never kill the leaders of the shoal.

Simply because they are the leaders, the strong, the smart who will ensure the survival of the shoal. They will live on to feed people another day.

What a simple but profound thought.

Make sure that in your life, your business, your community the leaders survive. To do exactly that… lead!
