Australia Post recently did a survey of a range of small businesses and found that 37% of small businesses believe they’re ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ at attracting and retaining customers; 61% believe they’re ‘fair’. Maybe they were talking to totally different business owners to the ones I meet.

In my experience, very few business owners reckon they are any good at their marketing. In fact, for quite a large percentage of them their number one worry is where their next prospect will come from… and when!

Its why I keep repeating the marketing mantra I learnt from Dan Kennedy “Be a better marketer of what you do than doer of what you do!” It’s also why I highly recommend every day you remember that great guide to generating prospects I so often repeat “Show me a person who earnestly and enthusiastically tells their story to four of the right people every day and I will show you a very successful person”.
