My recent blog where I curated an article titled No, you are not ‘running late’, you are rude and selfish by Greg Savage attracted a lot of comment from people with similar views and levels of annoyance.

A long time friend of mine, John Mullavey, wrote to tell me of his experience.

“Some years ago when I was with Kodak and based in Perth – so that’s late 80’s – a motivational guy came to give us a rev up and I’ve never forgotten the by-line on his business card:

“ If I’m not 5 minutes early I’m late”

To this day, in whatever diary I’ve had, I’ve tried to put every appointment in early, so a 9 o’clocker becomes 8.55. It’s a bit like the .99 in retail pricing, puts you back a slot.

I just figure most people in business have got heaps to do and if we can run ahead of schedule the cumulative effect is bonus time all day.

Simple but then business principles don’t always = day to day life.”

Well said John and what a fabulous idea that all of us could and should adopt.
