You probably remember going to one of those quaint tourist towns where you walked into the old fashioned printing office, and for a few dollars, they’d print a “Wanted” poster with your photo and set your name in the headline of an old newspaper.

Well, the cunning people at Melbourne University have put a contemporary slant on this by using it to follow up prospective undergraduates by featuring their name in a newspaper.

Bjorn, the son of my Miracle Worker, Felicity, went to an Open Day at Melbourne University, and some time later, received a facsimile newspaper front page with his name prominently in the headline. And, of course, our names are one of our most treasured possessions…. seeing our own will almost always get our attention.

Unfortunately, in this case, Bjorn chose to go to Monash University, but at least Melbourne University went down trying.

The point for us? How can we use the names of prospects, or clients, in something that grabs their attention, and gets them to take the next step toward doing business with us?

And, with software like Publisher available to us, creating a template should be pretty easy. (Using their name in an interesting subject line isn’t a bad idea for a start!)
