I continue to be amazed at the number of small businesses who want to make themselves look even smaller. How do they do this?

Well, very simply, they have a website, but their e-mail address never uses that domain name. In other words to contact them you go to a Gmail or similar provider address.

Now that really makes a business look pretty darn small, a backyard or part time operation even. Or maybe one run by a cyberspace illiterate.

If you want to be professional then your e-mail addresses should always have your business domain name. No ifs! No buts!

Oh, and while I’m on the subject, always make your e-mail address easy to read, easy to interpret as well as preferably easy to remember. That means no full stops or other characters, especially underlines, in the name ahead of the domain name. These are almost impossible to decipher if you’re looking at a hyperlinked e-mail address (or that annoyingly small print on a business card).
