You know I’ve never rated myself as a great father.
When I go to funerals and hear kids talking about their dads and how great they were, I sit there wondering what the hell my kids will find to say about me when I go.
You see, I was always too busy working and never really spent the time with them that I should have. I never realised that, after you throw a stone into a pool and the ripples stop, you never know where the stones are.
Apart from that, I wasn’t very good at sport so I never took my kids out to kick a football, play beach cricket or do any of the other things the great dads do.
But I’m proud of each and every one of my children and what they have achieved.
So, I was tickled pink on Saturday night when I went to see my eldest son coach his two daughters in each of their basketball finals (yeah, he coaches two teams, that in itself is extraordinary!)
He did a fantastic job!
I loved the cool, calm and controlled way he went about it. Praising and encouraging, never raising his voice or getting hot, bothered or aggressive. He was the very model of the ideal coach. A credit to him and a role model for parents involved in helping their kid’s sporting teams.
And the great result was that each of the girls’ teams won and progress to the next level of the finals.
Whether the teams win or lose next week, Brad has already my admiration. I’m proud of my boy.

Thanks Deb but I do know I could have done better!
Like father, like son. You sound surprised at his achievement…what do you expect…he’s the son of a legend! And I’m not joking.
Thanks Liga, I feel humble!
