When you are talking to prospects you should always sound like an expert and, because most people are not good at expressing themselves, this is where you can fall down. The number one fear of most people is speaking in public, the number two fear is death… and that only goes to show that most people would rather die than speak in public!
Being able to speak coolly and confidently in public is not a talent with which you are born. It is merely a skill that can be mastered by having the proper training. If you are able to speak fluently, confidently and competently in any situation you will have the admiration of the vast majority of people who see it as a “gift”. When you can hold people in the palm of your hand through the power of your speech then it’s an easy step to put business in your pocket.
So how do you get good? Well, as with successful real estate investment there are just 3P’s (position, position, position); in the case of speaking its practise, practise, practise. You get good by doing it!
My suggestion? Find opportunities to speak… at a meeting volunteer to thank the guest speaker or welcome guests; in the office do the farewell speech for a team member who is leaving; grab the 5 minute opportunity to talk about your business at a networking night; there are literally hundreds of opportunities. The more you do, the better you get!
