The other day someone asked me what they could do to motivate their team. In response, I told them, “Motivating your team is often easy. Simply, improve your attitude!”
You see I’d noticed in my short time with them that they didn’t smile, were abrupt with people, too busy to chat and didn’t have a good word to say about customers, products or people. There was a black cloud above their heads very much like the comic strip character I seem to recall.
Attitudes are infectious. Your frame of mind, whether it is positive or negative, always has an impact on the people around you. It’s obvious that your attitude will have a direct impact on your staff, your customers, and everybody with whom you deal.
So remember this when you think your team members need motivation… it’s probably not the staff that needs the motivation… it’s you. Generally staff reflect the attitude of their employer. If you want to have motivated staff, motivate yourself every day by maintaining a positive and happy disposition. Even if you don’t feel like it, tell yourself you’re fantastic, terrific or tremendous. Any which way be positive! The improvement to your business will be fantastic!
