Okay, okay I know that you very, very busy people don’t have time to have fun and also that every phone call you get is important so perhaps you’d better stop reading here!
And then decide what role you are going to play. I like that of a homicide detective so I go on to say (apparently to another person) whilst semi covering the microphone. “No, no don’t touch the body yet, we need those samples!”
Then back to the caller, “Sorry, I’ll be with you in a moment… (to the apparent other party) no, no, leave the gun where it is!”
Then continue on in that vein for as long as you like and you can sustain the act. It’s fun, if you can do it.
I’m currently trying out “Thanks nurse, hold the phone up for me… (distractedly) hello… for god’s sake don’t let the oxygen level drop, watch that bleeding… who am I talking to?”
Of course, it can be a disaster if it’s that important client you hoped to win or your bank manager calling about that lifesaving loan but life is full of risks, so why not take another one? And have some fun?
