A couple of times a week I meet with my dog walking mates to spend an hour or so exercising both our dogs and ourselves.
On the Fridays we meet at a local Maccas with the idea of having a walk and a cup of coffee (which has really improved lately) and a slice of raisin bread for the puppies.
Last Friday I walked in to order from the friendly counter staff member only to find they had disappeared. I had to order from the self-serve computer… and do it all by myself.
Well, when I purchase something, I like to have some interaction with a human being. So, I waited for a team member to help me and that gave me a chance to get a smile and have a chat.
My day was made!

And this replacement of staff by machines is becoming all pervasive.
The other day I went to my bank to deposit a minuscule amount and a staff member at the door led me outside to the ATM to show me how I could do it myself.
The people are disappearing!
The way we are going we will shortly do everything in front of self-serve computers… but maybe by then we will also have been replaced by machines!
