I had an e-mail from a long time client and friend asking for a couple of examples of professional businesses doing something for the clients that has evoked the “wow” factor. So here are some of the ideas I gave him that may be useful for you…
Practical advice and solutions expressed clearly and concisely.
Pick Winno's brain.
- If it’s their first visit making sure the receptionist is at the door when they arrive, opens it, shakes their hand and says “Hello Mrs Jones, welcome, we’ve been looking forward to seeing you…”
- Going on and saying “Now just let me make you comfortable and I’ll get you your white tea, it was two sugars wasn’t it?” (You found out what they drank when you set the appointment up.)
- Having their name on the sign on the parking spot reserved for them.
- Valet parking their car.
- Phoning them the next day to ask “Was everything okay on your visit?”
- Ringing occasionally when there is no need just to ask “How’s things?”
- Having a movie night for your special clients and their friends.
- Having a lunch with a speaker on topics that have nothing to do with your business… like 7 secret holiday spots you must see before you die, little known wines that don’t cost the earth but taste like they do, etc.
- Special visits to places they normally wouldn’t go like the kitchen of a hotel, a telemarketing centre, sewerage farm (yep, I’ve really done it… you have to pick your guests), or a bakery or whatever you reckon would take their interest.
- Treating them at all times with respect and dignity.
