When I stayed a few days at a hotel in Sydney recently I was reminded of a popular song in my youth “Little Things Mean a Lot” written by Edith Lindeman (lyrics) and Carl Stutz (music). The last verse was…

Send me the warmth of a secret smile
To show me you haven’t forgot
For always and ever, now and forever
Little things mean a lot

When we checked in about noon on the first day there were some used room service bits and pieces awaiting collection outside a room on the way to ours.

Later that night they were still there. Next morning they were still there. And the same evening. And the next morning.

Fortunately they disappeared sometime later.

But every time I walked past those uncollected items it shrieked “This hotel could be great if it only looked after the little things!” It spoilt the great impression I could have had of that hotel because they did do a lot of things right.
