I think I’ve reflected previously about the fact that I’m not much of a handy man and even the simplest of tasks generally have me beat. But, until now, I always had a ready solution… a mate of mine could fix just about anything and solve almost any problem so I just used to call him. Problem solved!

Unfortunately he had a terrible accident a year or so ago and has not recovered well enough to help me with my handy man problems.

And every time I went to the toilet I was reminded of a vexing problem requiring handy man skills well beyond my abilities.

The toilet roll holder in our ensuite was loose and pointed down so that the roll slid off onto the floor. I had visions of having to drill a new hole in the wall or use one of those spring clip thingies, well beyond my capabilities and confidence level.

So, I was happy to pick the roll up prior to use but it was driving my wife crazy. I suggested putting a length of string through the roll and tying it to a nail in the wall but that unfortunately enraged my wife further.
