If you live down here in the metro area of Melbourne you’re starting to feel that it’s lockdown for life.

And it reminded me that, apart from home incarceration, offering a giveaway for life (or slightly less!) isn’t a really bad idea to promote your business!

And if you go to Maccas (purely for the kids or grandkids, as I do!) you’d know that Maccas are doing it too. Free coffee for a year!

Running such a promotion can work gangbusters if you really plan your campaign well, for example, to capture names and contact details to build your database and it won’t cost heaps coz you are giving away product. And most winners can’t bear having one a day of your stuff after the novelty wears off and thus rarely see the year out!

This is the classic that has helped thousands of people understand the nuts and bolts of basic business. If you haven't heard it, this is one you must get now.
How to turn your business into a Money Making Machine

I well remember, I suggested to an ice cream parlour they give away an ice-cream every day for a year to a competition winner and after about 3 weeks he was sick of the sight of ice-cream and rarely, if ever, came back for more of his non-transferable prize!

So, give it a try but remember, proper planning is required and testing and measuring the costs and results is mandatory.

(Having said that I can’t for the life of me see why Maccas would run this promotion. They seem to be only running it to people whose email they have so they could easily give them a free coffee to try to build the coffee buyers. They could also train their team members to ask, “Would you like a coffee with that?” Maybe it just makes the local franchisee feel that they’re doing something.)
