In this big wide, wonderful, digital world of ours I never cease to be amazed at how well most businesses, large and small, use the internet.

And, similarly, I never cease to be amazed at how well most businesses, large and small, misuse the internet!

And there’s one thing that really gets up my nose, big time!

That’s when I go to a website seeking information (probably the number one reason people visit!) and just don’t get anywhere.

Let me explain with an example.

In suburbs like mine most of the mature males, like me, plant tomatoes for summer results and, more importantly, bragging rights.

And this year I have a problem coz I reckon my tomato patch needs to lie fallow… and I don’t have a replacement patch in the back garden.

“So, grow them in barrels,” I thought. But what sort and size of barrels? And what tomato seedlings are suitable? And the soil?

So, I did what any reasonable person would do… went to my favourite nurseryman’s website.

“Can’t find the answer?” volunteered the website, “Just give us your details and tell us what you need to know. We’ll be right back with the answer.”

So I did!

And they weren’t!

And a fortnight later, I’ve still had no response.

How many times has that happened to you?

It seems that most website owners have a pact… don’t respond to queries that come in off their site. In my experience it seems to happen all the time.

So, why, oh why, don’t you answer me?

The lesson for you and me. Simple! Always respond promptly.
