As regular readers will know, the first step in making advertising work is to get the prospect’s attention. Nowhere could this have been better done than at Healesville Sanctuary the other day when we were enjoying a wonderful presentation “Spirits of the Sky”.
It’s all about Australian birds and it’s fabulous! A line up of indigenous birds swoop, sail and soar in front of a rapt audience, demonstrating their habits and skills.
Naturally everyone’s attention was totally focussed on what was happening (not the least because a bird of prey might zoom just above head height toward you!).
No better time for a commercial!
Warning us that we all must have our cameras ready for the next bit of action, our compere introduced Monte, the sulphur crested cockatoo and said “Now!” as Monte released two straps to triumphantly reveal this banner. Click went every camera! “Message you photo and the word Wipe to that number” our compere commanded!
And a zillion messages winged their way to the advertisers who responded with a message on saving the environment by using environmentally friendly toilet paper!
The advertiser has me in the database and I’m going to try ecofriendly toilet paper. Well, at least I’ll give it a rub!
It was great communication… we were emotionally prepared to try the product coz we wanted to help our great Aussie birds.
Advertising that got a result!
