I was driving along the freeway paying careful attention to my driving and the surroundings when I spotted this supersize billboard which, as you can see, shows a number of wind turbines across what I assume is the Australian counryside, the cryptic phrase “is why”, the Telstra logo and the message “Australia is why” in very small letters.

I was puzzled by what that all meant. Perhaps, Telstra was now building windmills in Australia, or using them to power our phone network, or whatever.

But, for sure, the message certainly escaped me. I pondered it every time I went past it (and sometimes the pondering kept me awake at night!)!

Now thanks to the industry magazine Campaign Brief I’m up to speed. You see it’s all part of a campaign that showcases the important role Telstra plays in supporting Australia and its diverse communities.

As Campaign Brief reports Jeremy Nicholas, CMO at Telstra says: “For over 100 years Telstra has been connecting Australians and we are deeply committed to the country’s progress and prosperity. Our new campaign has been created to express the vital and sometimes overlooked role Telstra plays in taking our nation forward; to articulate not just what we do, but why we do it. As the country’s biggest telco and a leader on climate action, a principal sponsor of sport and the arts and strong supporter of the communities we serve, we are committed to Australia and to building world-class infrastructure to keep us all connected.

So, there you are! I now undertand what that cryptic 2-word message means. It’s even greater now that I’ve caught up with one of the TVC’s which make the message so much clearer!
