In our last article we said we’re going to write a letter and drop in into neighbourhood letterboxes in an eye-catching envelope.
It’s called the “Hi neighbour letter.” It’s personal from you to them and it helps them understand what you can do for them in a way that motivates them to call you if they need what you’ve got.
So here it is….
Good morning neighbour!
I just wanted to say hello!
The purpose of this letter is quite simple. It is merely to introduce myself because my office is comparatively close to your home.
We probably shop at the same supermarket, our kids may have gone to the same school, and we may even worship at the same church, support the same local sporting clubs or have coffee at the same cafe. We have probably passed each other in the street without knowing.
And that’s the reason I’m writing.
Because I live in the area and because most people believe that “it’s not what you know but who you know” I am writing to let you know what I do on the off chance that you may need my services at some time in the future.
You see I am one of the few fitness trainers in the area and probably some of your friends and neighbours are clients of mine.
I help people to make friends with their body! I find that many local people are putting up with weight problems or simply lack of energy that can be changed by spending just an hour or so with me each week.
And I particularly like to see people who have never done any exercise in the past because once they have worked with me for a few minutes they always tell me they didn’t know getting fit could be so easy!
I have been in business here for the last 9 years and as I live and work in the area it gives me a great deal of inside knowledge and experience that will be of real value to you. And because you are a neighbour I’m keen to look after you too… and do a great job!
Now you may have a fitness trainer with whom you are happy at the moment but I’ll stay in touch so that if you should ever need my services you’ll know me as your neighbour and be able to see me with confidence.
Yours sincerely,
Jane Doe
YOUR NEIGHBOUR
P.S. And, if you’re thinking about losing weight or getting fit, just call me and I’ll send you a great article entitled “The Lazy Person’s Way to Lose Weight & Get Fit”.
So there’s the letter and you’ll need to change it to suit your business but, more importantly, to make it work for you, you’ve got to get out there and get it into people’s letterboxes. If you go out very day for 30 days you’ll have contacted 3,000 people.
Don’t expect to get 3,000 responses… you may get half a dozen or so (and some will be telling you not to drop stuff in their letterbox) but you’ll get enough to make the exercise worthwhile and lots more when you take the value of repeat business and referrals into account.
So what do you do next?
We’ll talk about that next time.
