I never cease to be amazed at the way some people spend their time and energy on what to me seem to be matters of very little interest. But I suppose it’s horses for courses (apt for the day after the Melbourne Cup!). One person’s meat is another person’s poison.

So here’s a great example of what I mean from a guy whose newsletter I have received for years. The content is sometimes interesting, sometime not, but this is jaw dropping!

“Gillette vs. Schick: Year Three GARY NORTH’S TIP OF THE WEEK

In October 2018, I began a test. Which razor blade would last longer? A Gillette Mach 3 or a Schick Quatrro?

I switch razors every day.

If you want to do more, be more and achieve more you must read this book today!

To sharpen each blade after each shave, I used a strip of blue jean material that is stapled to a towel rack next to the sink.

I reported on this test in 2019 at the end of year one:

I reported a year ago at the end of year two.

The test has ended. The Gillette won. There is some slight drag, but it cuts my beard.

The Schick gives no drag, but it does not cut my beard closely. It glides over it.

I used each blade for 18 months.

I would be content with using the Gillette blade longer, but I decided to test a new (old) Schick blade. I had two remaining. I have no more Gillette blades. The new Schick blade cuts smoothly.

So, with two Schick blades, I am set for at least two more years.”

So, there you are… the answer to which blade lasts the longest. Frankly I’ve never wondered but he’s had the time and patience to investigate. I admire him for it.

I wonder what I should be using some of my time and patience to establish. It shows an enquiring mind, huge commitment and infinite patience. Do I have enough of it I wonder?
