Here’s the name board of a takeaway shop in the food court near me. As I occasionally answer the urge for some diet destroying fast food I gaze at the sign and wonder about the apostrophed ‘N’.
Surely, I think shouldn’t it be a small ‘n’ as it’s an abbreviation of the word ‘and’?
Then I get to wondering shouldn’t the ‘n’ mover closer to the word ‘Fish’ so it becomes ‘Fish’n chips’?
And that then opens up the question of wouldn’t it work better if they had the ‘n’ instead of the ‘and’ so it becomes “Fish’n chips’n chicken’?
I really don’t know what is correct or would work best but it’s amazing what you ponder when you’re trying to overcome your guilt of a feed of fast food!
FISH | CHIPS | CHICKEN
Would be so much easier and would make life easier for pedants such as us!
