Lots of people worry about the big discount supermarket stores running the little traders out of business. For instance, those chains of discount pharmacies would appear to be making it difficult for the little guy to beat.

Not so in our area, or for me and my family.

For example, the other day when I was out walking with my mates I managed to get the rest of my body moving faster than my legs and tumbled over on the edge of the bitumen. The resultant knee injury bled profusely and I needed some big clean-up work when I got home.

Now, at home, we have supplies of first aid materials but never the right stuff to go on the right wound.

So what did I do?

I hopped in the car and drove to “our” pharmacy, the one we have been using for years. Not only did they have the right first aid material for the knee but they also dressed and bandaged the wound for me. Plus they liberally lavished me with heaps of TLC.

If I’d gone to that big chemist supermarket up the road would they have done that for me in their rather barn like premises?

No way!

It’s the personal service guarantee that my local chemist gives that keeps my business. And there’s no way that mere cheap prices can match that!

The price I’m prepared to pay for almost any purchase is the dollar cost plus a premium for great service, care and attention. And that’s what my local pharmacy gives me. It’s something the discount chemist competitor has no way of matching.

P.S. Oh, and another thing the big boys can’t match. My pharmacy knows my name!
