Imagine that you’re standing at a cocktail party and someone says, ‘What do you do?’

You say ‘I’m a candlestick maker’, and their eyes glaze over. That’s because they’ve got preconceived ideas about what a candlestick maker does. What you need to do is present them with something that grabs them by the throat, stops them in their tracks and gets them lusting to find out more.

So don’t tell them you’re a candlestick maker. Smile and tell them, ‘I put the romance back into living’. Then watch their eyes light up.

The next step is to create a business card, letterhead, website or email header that makes someone’s eyes light up and sucks their eyes into the screen too.

Remember curiosity is compelling. The more curious you make them, the more they’ll kill to know.

Don’t have your name and logo up front. Instead, have what you can do for people. Lead them into wanting to know who you are and what you can do for them.
