When you’ve got a problem or need a fresh idea it’s great to get out of your normal workplace and do something different… go for a coffee, have a brisk walk or just sit out in the fresh air and ponder. I love to practise the fine art of omphaloskepsis… to contemplate one’s navel whilst deep in freewheeling thought!
In my opinion, by far the best place to think is a busy place, a main street, a shopping centre food court, a railway station or, my favourite, an airport. You just sit and watch the people go by and wonder about them as they pass, ponder their stories or fantasise about who they are, what they’re doing and so on.
You just sit and let the mind freewheel. It’s amazing the results you get.
Some people would call it time wasting, to the contrary I find it very time profitable.
