Too often we take very little real notice of important events that are happening in the world. We vaguely know about them but they really haven’t registered in our minds. We haven’t any appreciation or understanding of them and so all we have is a passing awareness of them… no real depth of knowledge.

Of course, we often get a quick grab on television but that’s generally quickly replaced by more sensational local news of mayhem, murder and mystery.

So that what’s why I, maybe you, and certainly millions of others never really knew the real story of Afghanistan. In a word, the horror of it all.

I didn’t really understand any of this until I saw a show called Sparrows of Kabul at the weekend. It offered a fascinating and compelling account of the Australian experience in Afghanistan, beginning in the fields of Uruzgan province and culminating with the fall of Kabul and the evacuation of Kabul Airport.

Complimented by fantastic photos and videos it brought home to me what really happened there and the pain and suffering wrought upon all.

I learnt a helluva lot! It’d be great if you and your family did too!

Google Sparrows of Kabul and see if the show is coming your way some time soon.
